Pruning
You should start to see new growth and new shoots on all shrubs, if you were unable to prune any perennials last autumn, this is really the time to do so. For example if you have the butterfly plant ( Buddleia ) in your garden you can cut this back really hard if there are signs of new green shoots. Clematis’s will also need pruning after they have finished blooming - this will make them bloom stronger next year.
For all those Vegetable lovers
Carrots, Cabbage, Rhubarb, Spinach, and Cauliflower all like to be planted this time of year as they enjoy the crisp mornings.
Lawns
Lawns will need some attention including cutting, keeping clear of all debris i.e. leaves, sticks etc, you could also apply a fertilizer to kill any unwanted weeds and moss.
Flower beds
Keep them clear of weeds etc by turning over the soil and keeping them cultivated or you could decide to lay
a nice thick layer of chip bark or woodland mulch down as this keeps them looking smart and weed free.

Pansies withstand cold temperatures for certain times and therefore, here in Europe they are true spring plants blooming at the same time as daffodils, primrose’s and tulips.
