Clearing blocked gutters

Gutters get filled with leaves and dirt that comes off the roof and over time the gutters themselves get blocked and a lot of the rubbish runs along into the down-pipes and they get completely blocked as well.

The result is that the guttering no longer does its job and whenever it rains the water just runs over the edges of the gutters and damages whatever is below.

If the blockages are not too severe it may be possible to clear them by using a trowel to remove leaves and silt from the gutters or to run it out with a hose (although that will may just push it into the down pipes to block them as well).

The real way to do the job is to remove the down pipes and maybe the guttering as well and give it a thorough clean out, possibly using a jet-wash machine.

Video - clearing the gutters

Here is a short video that a client of JM Properties made while we were doing a major clear-out of his gutters, which were completely blocked and had not had any attention for many years!
